I don't agree with the American soccer teams using the FC. It should be SC. Sure the rest of the world uses their word for Football when talking about what we call soccer. But, they also know that we call it soccer.

The important thing to remember is that in the USA, football is bigger than soccer. You simply can't have two footballs in this country. It is interesting to note that before it was the United States Soccer Federation, it was the United States Football Association in 1913. Then in 1945 the term soccer was added and we had the United States Soccer Football Association. The word football was dropped in 1974.
Even in countries where "football" is often included in the names of the earliest leagues and governing bodies of the sport, the word has become increasingly associated with other domestic forms of the game, and soccer is becoming more widely used in those countries.
Also, in many countries that use the term "football" it is their national sport. In countries where it is not the national sport it is typically known as soccer.
So the rest of the world does not call it Football. Talk like this is what is hurting the game in the US. Many people think soccer people have holier than thou view of their game, because it is the "world's game." It doesn't bother me that we call it soccer and others call it Football. But it is a bit weird when our Major SOCCER League is letting football clubs play. The club team I played on in my younger days was the Classics SC. Why? Well, we played soccer not football. Had I grown up in another country I would've played football not soccer

No, they call it futbol and whatnot. He's the deal. Football/soccer/whatever you want to call it...has a rich history. Historically-speaking, it was a great game. It was that and watching gladiators. The Brits took soccer and made what is now called Aussie Rules Football and later rugby. Football is an improvement on ARF and rugby. Soccer is no longer useful. It has been improved and dang near perfected. American football represents the evolution of man in body and mind.

I think the point that Meyer was making was that its not called football here because a more popular sport took over that name. For a Major League Soccer team to then try and use the "FC" is not effective. Its very pathetic.
