I don't have kids, and I do worry about schools. But I don't make the connection that the dallas cowboys are the reason that Irving schools suck.
Plus, if anyone cares about schools, don't live in Irving.

There's more than 8 events a year. Have you seen the Mexicans? When one of their Los Lobos Boys y La Familia come through, they pack the hell out of that thing.
Given the land size, Texas Stadium is not an efficient money-making entitity. Estimates put the money generated by the stadium at 15-75 million annually. Some even say more but that's a joke. I think it's realistically around 30 million but even most of that gets funneled out of the city anyway. The area in and around TS encompasses almost 400 acres. Preliminary plans have an addition of 4000 homes (mostly high-rise lofts and condos), several million sq ft in retail and office space, and an extension of the DART rail line. Let's just say those 4000 homes have an average value of $225000. At a generous tax rate of 2.7%, that's 900 MILLION in taxable real estate values and 24 million in property tax revenue just in residential housing alone. Retail tax revenue could bring in another 15-20 million. Then, the sales tax revenue generated from entertainment and retail development will bring in at least another 8 million. So, they are looking at approximately $50 million at least in revenue just by this new development.
Like I said before, Irving has had their heads up their asses for 20 years. They've been behing the curve on many things and TS is just one of the problems. They finally have a chance to make things right. Maybe I'm just a little bitter that my sister is a freshman at UNT and was an A student in school and can't even write a damn Comp I paper on her own. Apparently they just move them along at breakneck speed because the school district is so underfunded and understaffed and don't even think twice to check and see if the kids have learned anything.

in huntsville. Its kind of scary actually. You are just driving down I 45 and there it is, its freaking huge. It's the creepiest thing in Huntsville beside the Youth Soccer Coaches Association.

Plus, if anyone cares about schools, don't live in Irving. This is one of the truest statements ever made. The Cowboys aren't the reason why the schools suck. The decisions Irving made regarding TS is just one reason. Jerry is going to look out for himself and I don't blame him for that. Irving just could have done lots of things different in the way they handled the stadium. If they could have turned it into a significant revenue stream they would have had the steps in place to support a new stadium like Arlington did. I could go on and on about Irving. They could have been like Plano and Frisco, but instead they are nothing more than a glorified Mesquite. My freshman year in high school, we had almost 2500 students. By the time I graduated, it was barely 1800. We lost 700 students in 4 years at just one high school. Lots of the guys I played baseball with moved off to Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, and McKinney. Those cities had it right. They had innovators and forward thinkers. Irving is just full of a bunch of reactors who move as fast as molasses at best...

yeah but the Dallas Cowboys play there. Well, you make a strong argument, but this is what's best for the city. I know this is what Laura Miller sounded like but the situation is a lot different. Dallas has the pieces in place (whether you can trust the people or not is a different story) to make it a viable economic opportunity but Irving does not. Laura Miller just hates football and sports period.

I bet people are going to drive by those new apartments on their traffic free commute (I am sure none of those 4000 homes will have people who drive to work) and well up with pride about the great city of Irving. They will laugh at the days when they were forced to host America's team and house a five time super bowl champion franchise.
Now, instead of those annoying "isn't that where the Cowboys play?" questions, they will get those much more sought after "aren't there some high rise apartments there?" questions.
This discussion was initially about how you are gay because you don't like the cowboys.

Mesquite-1 Irving-0 We're getting a world-championship equestrian arena... It's funny...there was a job posting for the city with the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the job title was Sports Marketing Sales Representative...what do you think the long-term outlook is for that job?

And Fischer, I don't care what they think...all I care about is Irving will be generating more money with this and they don't have to put a penny into it. Here's one of the plans: www.crossroadsdfw.com/pdf-files/new/ForestCity-CDFW-Fact.pdfI do hear there are plans for a Tom Landry statue if it's of any consolidation. There are also plans that include leaving the stadium's shell but I think that's stupid.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Irving will have too many bits before long...and they will all be the same bit. Did you hear of the big development they have planned off 161 and 635? It's right off Riverside and La Villita.
