Looks like Arkansas is hosting a regional. Here's to the Razorbacks... losers in the SEC championship games of football, basketball, and baseball for this year. Shit.

Sully, you have it all wrong in how they decide who gets a regional. Sure, the top teams get one but after that, its all politics. Take Ole Miss. They got a regional with a 37-23 (16-14 in conference record). That's pretty average. They are ranked 25th and I know the SEC is a good baseball conference, but how do you justify them getting a regional and Arizona with a 40-12 record getting a second seed in the regional hosted by Wichita State? I've seen Ole Miss and I've seen UofA's facilities I'd probably give Tuscon the edge just because of location. If you look, the Pac 10 only got one regional-ASU. The SEC got 4. The P10 gets 4 teams in the tourney. SEC 5. Those two conferences are traditionall the top 2 in the nation. In fact, I would give the nod to the P10 because there is a lot of good college baseball on the west coast outside the P10 and they trationally play a lot of those schools. The Big West alone got 4 teams in. Also, Pepperdine and Fresno state traditionally have good programs.
But, I will say that their non-conference schedule helped them out a lot with wins over tournament teams like Austin Peay, Memphis, New Orleans, Minnesota, UCLA, and Southern Miss. They went 6-4 against teams better than them in the SEC but only 10-10 against worst team. Plus, they had one 10 game stretch of 3-7. That doesn't really seem worthy of hosting a regional. Then they get Southern Miss, Sam Houston St., and Troy? What's up with that? None of those teams are ranked. SHSU should have gone to Rice's regional which would hav put Baylor's probably in A&M's.
But, I guess if you're going to have Troy and Southern Miss with their junior varsity traveling budgets get an automatic bid, the location makes sense.
I'm not going to argue whether or not TCU deserved a regional this year...it could have gone either way...but there's really no rhyme or reason behind who gets a regional other than who's buddies with who. Of the teams outside the top 8, I think A&M, Mizzou, Virginia, South Carolina, and Coastal Carolina deserved to be hosts. Arizona got jobbed. That leaves 3 spots open and how the other 3 got it over some other teams is beyond me.

Thanks for the clarification Sully. I assumed that you were trying to ruffle feathers. Albeit an obvious approach, it deserves some confetti.

Arizona must not have put in a bid. There's your kicker.

Some dang good action today. TU gets dropped. UC Irvine has some solid pitching and their pitcher threw a complete game. They have some fresh arms and need only one game to win. I look for them to beat TU again to go on the SRs. San Diego and FSU both took a loss. Arkansas had Houston Nutt relaying squeeze bunt signs from the 3rd base coach's box and got their ass handed to them by OSU. Vandy is tied going into the 9th. The Canes almost choked but continue on in the loser's bracket. My Frogs gave it a valient effort but just couldn't get the bats going against Rice. The game probably shouldn't have been played because of rain (Rice had two errors and TCU 1 and all 3 could have been attributed to a wet ball and field) but you still have to go out and play the game. They only used up one reliever and should have plenty of pitching to finish off Baylor tomorrow but they have an uphill climb to take two from Rice. Should be some great games on Monday...too bad we won't get to see any of them (I don't get the U).

Frogs were down 3-5 in the top of the 9th and rally with 7 runs including an opposite-field homerun by a .198 hitter. I love college baseball!

NCAAsports.com is the most unreliable source. Earlier the boxscore showed TU winning...now it says UC Irvine won.
Frogs gave it a dang good effort against Rice. Had a chance in the 9th with runners on base but came up short. It was a good showing and the furthest they've ever been before. Unfortunately, they will lose at least 3 juniors to the draft.
