I do get very animated. But I try not to hit a kid in the head...I used to hate that. The sound is amplified in your helmet, especially if the coach is wearing a ring.
I usually rub their head like you do with someone who has a burr. Or I slap their back.

I am all for hitting a kid upside the helmet. I also like the way Lou Holtz used the facemask as a way of emphasizing his point.
